Design Direction: Week 5, One Room Challenge: The Final Touches

Hi Everyone,

I can’t believe we are almost done with the One Room Challenge. On one hand, these last five weeks have felt like a lifetime, but they’ve also flown by. Since it’s been a somewhat gradual process, it’s hard to even remember what it looked like before. Today, I want to share a little behind the scenes look at some of the final touches we’ve put on the space that make it feel complete—specifically the art choices and installation.

Because there is such a wide array of art in my collection, it was important to me that we showcase a little bit of everything. I don’t want to ruin next week’s surprise by showing it all today, but I’m too excited to hold it all back. Once we installed the art, it really seemed to bring the whole office to life. Though the actual structure of the office didn’t change, we tried to mix things up in terms of the types of art we hung and the placement. One of my favorite parts was our decision to hang a couple of triptychs. You can see a peek of the Waikiki Triptych in the image above and you’ll get to see the other one in our conference room next week. I love hanging triptychs as an alternative to a large piece of art because it feels like you’re looking through a window to another world.

Initially, it was a little bit difficult to envision how the end result would turn out, but having the art installed made the colors in all the other details throughout the office pop. Like I said before, I really wanted to be intentional in the way we selected our artwork and make sure that it’s an accurate representation of the breadth of my brand. In addition to a couple gallery walls, I tried to create small “moments” that highlight iconic series throughout the different rooms in our office. There’s even a whole area dedicated to my latest series, Gray Malin in Palm Beach, which you’ll see in the big reveal next week.

Installing art isn’t always an easy task though, so we had to bring in the professionals to get the job done right. The two large prints that hang above our staircase were probably the most challenging and required serious stunts to get perfect. Just take a look at the image below!

The blue waters in Coral Casino Beach and Cabana Club look so nice next to the blue pendants from Hudson Valley Lighting. We used to have this diptych hanging in this spot and having images from my Gray Malin at the Coral Casino and Gray Malin at The Beverly Hills Hotel series is such a fresh new look that really brightens up the whole room.

We created a gallery wall using floating shelves from Minted above our new “living room” portion of the main office. Initially, we had wanted to create three rows of shelves, but since we were limited in space, we had to get creative. Hanging three small horizontal prints on the wall between the couch and shelf was the perfect solution. And, since it’s secure in the wall, we won’t have to worry about anyone accidentally hitting their heads on anything.

So, what do you think so far? I know you’re probably wanting to know all the details and I promise those are coming next week! Where would the fun be if I just revealed everything today? For now, you can check out my latest series, Gray Malin in Palm Beach, and dream about how you’d style it in your own home or office. Stay tuned till next week for the final reveal. I can’t wait to share!

Cheers!

Xx
