Hi Friends,
I’m so excited to be sharing with you one of my favorite rooms in The Gray Malin Getaway House! I previously shared with you the Primary Bedroom but now I want to share with you the great Room. The goal for this room was to create an aesthetic, put-together space while still emanating a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.
One of my main goals was to preserve the high ceilings and to optimize the amount of light let in. These two components can truly transform a room just to start. I wanted a room that felt breezy and clean without seeming sterile, so I chose to use a variety of different colored furniture from Williams Sonoma Home. To keep it cohesive, the singular blue chair is used to highlight the blue stripes in the couch. The wicker chairs underline the natural elements of the room such as the wood lined fireplace and shelves. We also incorporated green pillows and decor as an additive to the natural elements we wanted to imitate.

The great room was designed around my beach photography with Ocean Beach Wave being the center point above the fireplace. Other prints such as Beach Bronco, East Hampton, Newport Beach Surfers, and Bondi Beach Vertical are hung throughout the room. I wanted a focus on my beach prints - which are currently 30% off this week - in the room to convey that vacation feel so that visitors are engulfed by the Getaway experience.

I envisioned this room to be the ultimate portrayal of the Getaway House, so in order to achieve that, I wanted to make sure I had copious amounts of natural and coastal elements. The incorporation of wicker baskets and items placed on shelves was game-changing when striving for that feel. I placed a few plants and flowers from Diane James Home around the room to bring in those outdoor elements. We added Rejuvenation sconces to the walls for additive light in addition to the natural light coming from outdoors. Overhead, hangs a chandelier as a center point for the space.
To create a room where everything ties together, we chose a Williams Sonoma rug that included both greens as well as blues to highlight the color palette of the room. In addition, we incorporated dark green elements to help with cohesiveness as well as to add depth. I felt as though the dark green stools placed in front of the hearth are what really tied together the overall look of the room.
The transformation of this space was pivotal in the creation of the Getaway House. The living room is an area where one can congregate with their friends, family, or even alone to just chill and read a book. It’s amazing what can happen when you implement a little shelving, paint, and new furniture into a room, instantly creating a new and inviting space to kick up your heels and relax.
