If you didn’t get the memo yet, our new Gray Malin S’well Bottles have just been released and we have to say, we can’t help but take them everywhere with us! The size is just right to tote in our bags and keep us sipping on water all day long, without being a burden (and we haven’t even touched on the prints… are you dying over them like we are?!). We will be the first to admit that sometimes staying hydrated can be a chore, especially when we get so busy that our H2O intake takes a backseat to our daily work tasks. But with that said, it’s no secret that staying hydrated has endless benefits (and is actually necessary to our health).
For starters, staying hydrated does wonders for the skin—getting your daily water intake keeps skin looking dewy and fresh, and improves texture and elasticity. Not to mention, drinking water is a crucial part of keeping a healthy diet in check. Instead of reaching for a snack out of boredom, drink a glass of water instead to diminish false hunger cravings and feel fuller. Plus, drinking water helps reduce bloat and helps keep energy levels up. We’re just scratching the surface here on the benefits of healthy hydration, and our stylish S’well bottles are giving us just the right amount of motivation to get our daily water intake back on track.
Hydration can be a daunting task, but we promise there are a few easy tips to help you make hydration a habit. First off, one of the most effective ways of getting your daily water intake is by having a specific bottle or cup set aside for water alone. If you mentally label one container for your H2O, it will be much easier to keep track of just how much water you are drinking as you refill. Like we mentioned, this is exactly why we love our GM S’well Bottles—and don’t worry, we’ll break down exactly how many times you should be filling your S’well bottle throughout the day to keep hydrated later in this post. Whether you’re at the gym or at the office, our S’well bottles will keep you sipping all day long, in any setting (psst…and we promise we won’t tell anyone if you decide to substitute it for a little something during cocktail hour!).
If you need even more motivation, try drinking water at the same time every day. For example, have a glass of water first thing in the morning and every night before going to sleep. Or try drinking up before each meal—having a couple glasses of water before eating will not only help you reach your hydration goals, but will also help you feel fuller faster so you don’t overeat. But exactly how much water do you need to be drinking for your body? This is often the most difficult and misunderstood part of staying hydrated—what may be right for someone else, might not be the same for you. Although the traditional suggestion is 6-8 glasses per day, there are many factors that go into healthy hydration, such as weight and activity level of the individual. So, to make sure we’re getting enough water throughout the day based on our bodies and lifestyles, we thought we would break it down and get back to the basics. Here’s the formula: take your body weight and multiply by 0.5 (or in other words, cut it in half). This total equals the oz. of water you should be drinking per day. Easy as that! Here’s an example… 160 lbs. x 0.5 = 80 oz. per day Now here’s the tricky part: make sure you don’t forget to factor in the amount of time you generally exercise! For every 30 minutes you exercise, add 12 oz. of water to your total intake per day. And as promised, we’ll make it even easier for you and break it down according to your 17 oz. S'well bottle. Let’s say a 160 lb. person drinks 80 oz. per day, and exercises for an hour, bringing their total to 104 oz. For an average like this, your daily water intake would be about 6 S’well bottles. So get sipping!
We can’t wait to dive into our very own healthy hydration challenge, and we hope you’ll try it with us! What tricks do you use to stay hydrated throughout the day?
