Out of Office: My Favorite Last-Minute Summer Getaways

Hi Everyone,

I love to travel in the summer, but with two little ones, I’ll be the first to admit that making plans can be a little bit difficult these days. From birthdays to barbecues, summer is already flying by, but it wouldn’t be complete without a quick vacation! For that reason, I rounded up five of my favorite last-minute summer getaways that are easily accessible and perfect for a spur-of-the-moment trip. Whether you’re in the mood for a scenic road trip or a glamorous stop in a big city, summer is all about exploring new places and making memories. Be sure to check out my accompanying travel guides for each destination for some of my favorite spots to eat, drink, and soak up the sun. I hope you’ll enjoy these getaways as much as I have….

The Hamptons

If you couldn’t tell from how many aerials I’ve shot there, the Hamptons is one of my favorite getaways. Come for the delicious cocktails and fresh seafood, stay for the gorgeous sunsets and charming beaches. My local favorites are Navy Beach for classics like crab cakes, Gurney’s for a luxurious beach club experience, and BookHampton for summer reading.

Big Sur

Big Sur can only be accessed through a road trip along the California coast, but if you live in L.A. or the Bay Area and haven't booked a flight anywhere, you're in luck.

Pack up the car and take your time winding down these stunning coastal roads—trust me, you’ll want to stop for pictures! Heading out later in the summer promises the clearest views (no morning fog!) with the best weather, so what are you waiting for? This makes a great last-minute road trip from either Northern or Southern California. Pro tip: if you can, stay for a night or two at the iconic Post Ranch Inn, it’s an experience like no other.

New York City

New York City will always have a special place in my heart, and if you haven’t taken a trip there yet, a quick summer visit is essential. Central Park is in full bloom, Coney Island is filling up, and all the museums make the perfect air-conditioned break from a day out exploring. Be sure to add Santina to your must-eat list, then walk it off with a stroll on the Highline nearby.

San Diego

With some of the prettiest white sand beaches around (the one on Coronado Island actually sparkles, thanks to mica flecks!), over 100 breweries, and an abundance of delicious tacos, San Diego is a great choice for a last minute trip. Take a hike at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, grab lunch at Oscars Mexican Seafood, and end the day with a stunning view of the ocean over Sunset Cliffs.

San Francisco

From the splendor of the Golden Gate Bridge to the pristine natural oasis of the Muir Woods National Monument, San Francisco has a lot to offer. I could spend days listing all the incredible places to eat, drink, and sightsee here, so if you’re planning a last-minute trip, be sure to check out this guide first, and know that you’ll never run of out things to do! A few of my can’t miss stops: the stunning Palace of Fine Arts, watching the waves at Ocean Beach, and a scoop of delicious ice cream at Smitten.
