Design Direction: 3 Ways to Decorate with Pantone’s 2018 Color of the Year

byTeam GM

At the close of every calendar year, we eagerly await the announcement of Pantone’s upcoming Color of the Year. Not only is it exciting to make predictions before the news hits, but what we love even more is imagining how we can incorporate the announced color of the year into our décor over the following months. You know we love a décor challenge, and this is one of our favorites!

That being said, this year is no exception. This past December, Pantone announced Ultra Violet as the color to know in 2018, and designers, bloggers, artists, and the like had some mixed feelings about the shade—in fact, Gray shared his thoughts on Ultra Violet alongside some other notable names right here. It’s a bold and challenging color to face, indeed, but we love what Pantone had to say about their selection. It really does feel provocative, imaginative (much like Gray’s Dream Series), and deeply thoughtful, all with a touch of mystery! This royal color really pushes the boundaries, and we’re having a blast seeing where it fits IRL.

If you’re on the same page as us and want to go hand-in-hand with Ultra Violet into 2018, then keep scrolling to see a few ways you can incorporate this shade into your décor this year:

Dress Your Walls

You know our first order of business when trying out a new color trend is finding the perfect art and accents to hang on our walls. Whether you want to go floor-to-ceiling with Pantone-approved paint or wallpaper, or just add a pop of Ultra Violet with a print, these picks should give you a great head start…

  1. Purple Sheep, $349+ | 2. Bloom By Bloom Wallpaper, $228 | 3. Purple Umbrellas, St. Tropez, $249+ | 4. Dawn, $199 | 5. Rainbow Sheep I, $349+ | 6. Fuschia by Paule Marrot, $1,125 | 7. Rainbow Sheep III, $349+ | 8. Chained Prisma Mirror, $58

Swap in Some Statement Furniture

If you ask us, Ultra Violet really makes a statement, and this shade is practically begging for just that—to live as a statement piece! If your motto is to “go big or go home” when incorporating a new décor trend, then take the plunge and add one of these Ultra Violet pieces to your space. Some go all-out while others have just a hint of the shade, but nonetheless they’ll steal the show in the best way…

  1. Picadilly Bar Cart, Aubergine, $215 | 2. Clarke Bed, $1,898 | 3. Kelly Wearstler Bejeweled Stool, $26,000 | 4. Tamsin Dining Chair, $128 | 5. Feather Bloom Edlyn Cocktail Ottoman, $948 | 6. Rhys Chair, $1,748 | 7. Three Hands Purple Glass Table, $204 | 8. 1970s Console Table, $2,484.67

Let the Details Do the Talking

At the end of the day, nothing ties a room together and tells a story better than the finishing touches. Although we love Ultra Violet on a large scale, we just might love it even better in the details of our space. Here are a few of our ready-to-shop favorites below…
