Hi Everybody!
This summer, our family explored the northern part of Yellowstone, from Hayden Valley to the stunning waterfalls, and it was an adventure we'll never forget. As we drove through the park, we were so excited to be greeted by herds of bison, elk, and pronghorn. We even spotted bald eagles and ospreys soaring above, their graceful flight captivating Max and Dove. Seeing the wildlife through their eyes reminded me of the awe I felt when I first visited the park and why it became the inspiration behind my Yellowstone collection.
As we explored, I couldn’t help but think about my aerial Yellowstone series, which captures the park from a completely different perspective. The vibrant colors of the Grand Prismatic Geyser, viewed from above, feel almost otherworldly, while the scale of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone is truly humbling when seen from the sky. The winter scenes are just as dramatic—bison, moose, and even bears navigating the snow-covered landscape. It’s a side of Yellowstone few get to witness in person, and through this series, I wanted to preserve that unique beauty.
We stayed at Under Canvas in northern Yellowstone, where the kids had the time of their lives making s’mores by the campfire after a full day of exploring. The Lower Falls left all of us in awe, its thunderous roar a reminder of the park's raw power. As we stood there, I couldn’t help but reflect on how this place, captured through my lens, continues to influence my work.
But the trip was more than a creative recharge—it was about making memories. It was an added bonus to be able to play UNO Artiste x Gray Malin deck by the campfire each night. Watching Max and Dove take in the park's beauty made me appreciate how important these moments are, not just for my art, but for our family. Yellowstone, with its wide-open skies and endless wildlife, is where the magic of nature and family came together.
If you're looking for a family-friendly hike inside Yellowstone National Park, we highly recommend the scenic loop, aka “Trout Lake Trail” around Trout Lake. At just about a mile round trip, it's perfect for little ones and offers breathtaking views throughout. The serene waters of the lake, set against a backdrop of lush greenery and towering peaks, make this trail a hidden gem for families. Max and Dove loved spotting wildlife along the way, including the trout swimming in the crystal-clear waters. The trail is easy to access and well-maintained, making it a great option for young hikers. Definitely a must-do for anyone exploring Yellowstone with kids!
I have been in awe of Yellowstone since visiting when I was a young boy. I love the work of Ansel Adams and it’s truly an honor to bring my own unique perspective to this timeless American landscape.
Until next time, Yellowstone. We’ll be back. Don’t miss my new series, “Yellowstone”, launching today.
X, Gray
