The Making of Gray Malin in Palm Beach

The Making of Gray Malin in Palm Beach

Hi Everyone,

It’s been so exciting seeing everyone’s reactions to my Gray Malin in Palm Beach series the past couple of days. Seeing these images all over again through your eyes is magical. Looking back on the process of creating this series made me want to share a little bit of a behind the scenes look and talk more about the inspiration for the series.

Before you keep reading, take a minute to watch the video below to see what it was like on set:

I’ve long been mesmerized by the old-world glamour and extravagance of Palm Beach. Similar to how I was inspired to create series by The Beverly Hills Hotel and The Coral Casino, Palm Beach and The Breakers attracted me in a similar fashion. Because there is so much history behind the area, I wanted to make sure I carefully captured the true essence of the community. With vintage wardrobe, classic props, and 1960’s hair and makeup, it’s almost like I traveled back in time to capture the Palm Beach of yesteryear. With a total of 27 team members on set, this series marks my largest production to date.

The iconic Breakers was just one of the many backdrops featured in this series. The Breakers is the epitome of Palm Beach seaside glamour and I knew that there was no way I’d be able to accurately capture the community without featuring that property. Eventually, The Breakers Hotel became the foundation for the series, as its grandeur and rich history inspired the collection and ignited my enthusiasm to bring the spirit of Palm Beach into homes around the world.

For those of you who don’t know, Lilly Pulitzer was started in Palm Beach in the late 1950’s . Since this was around the same time period I was trying to channel in my photographs, it was crucial that we featured clothing from the cheery brand. Our stylist helped us gain access to the Lilly Pulitzer Archives and you can see it throughout many of the images. Lady in Lilly is my ode to the late Lilly Pulitzer and her everlasting legacy.

In addition to The Breakers, I also shot at two exclusive properties and on Worth Avenue. Shooting at the various properties helped capture the extravagance of the Palm Beach lifestyle. And, since Worth Avenue is the ultimate Palm beach shopping destination, the series would not have been complete without it.

I hope you all enjoyed this sneak peek into what went into creating Gray Malin in Palm Beach. It was a labor of love and truly took a village, but the end result is beyond amazing. Thank you so much to my incredible team for helping make this all happen. I couldn’t have done it without you!

Cheers!

Xx
