I hope you’ve had the chance to explore my latest vintage inspired series Gray Malin at the Hotel del Coronado. After the success of my Coral Casino series a few years back, I was so excited to incorporate the amazing synchronized dance team, The Aqualillies again to bring the perfect retro flair to this iconic historical location. We sourced vintage props and swimwear to evoke the splendor of a timeless day spent at the beloved property.
We worked with six Aqualillies and sourced a variety of designer swimsuits in pastel colors that had a vintage look to them. We also found these adorable swim caps to fully capture the back-in-time feeling we were hoping to achieve. If you haven’t already seen Some Like it Hot, it is a classic Marilyn Monroe film that was shot right at the Hotel del Coronado on this very beach that is sure to get you in the retro spirit that absolutely inspired my vision!
The historic Hotel del Coronado is most known for this iconic turret, that is almost ten stories tall, and is featured on navigation charts serving as a nautical and aeronautical landmark for decades. It was so fun to find unique ways to portray this iconic building through a Gray Malin lens.
I love how this print turned out! I always love to create a “checking in” moment in front of the hotels we do series at, and thought that adding a retro 1954 Oldsmobile 88, and a 1957 Ford Thunderbird would complete the retro vision I was going for.
Lastly, doesn’t this Ice cream shot just scream summer? This hotel is the perfect dream getaway destination, and I hope this series transports you not only back in time, but to this vacation hub of the United States. Which print is your favorite?
Head to see the entire Gray Malin at Hotel del Coronado series now and let us know your favorite shots in the comments on the @graymalin instagram! I hope this series transports you to the warmer summer days ahead.
