The Kitchen

The Kitchen

Hi Friends,

I’m delighted to continue our dive into the Gray Malin Getaway House. Today, I will be sharing the heart of this house with you, the kitchen. The kitchen is something that we worked thoughtfully and methodically on during this renovation with the assistance of Madison Nicole Design. I think we have truly created a show-stopping room.

This room underwent one of the most dramatic transformations. My vision was to infuse the kitchen with statement colors and dynamic designs, and make it a place for people to cook together, sip their morning coffees, and just enjoy the space. We achieved this by painting the cupboards and bar wall in a striking blue. Brass accents and touches of wicker introduced natural elements, bringing the space to life. We replaced the old island with a new design, providing more room for culinary creativity by the stove. The result is a kitchen that’s both lively and functional.

With a simple backsplash, we introduced a fabulous stove that truly steals the spotlight. This Le Cornue 5-burner stove from Williams-Sonoma, with its brass accents, stands out beautifully against the room's neutral elements. To enhance the blue tones, we hung [Old North Wharf Cottage, Nantucket

The stripes in the runner and shades harmonize the array of blues, while wooden island drawers add a touch of variation to avoid a monochromatic look. The fabulous Williams Sonoma counter stools really complete the room.

Rejuvenation pendants serve as a beautiful focal point, complementing the preserved skylights that flood the space with natural light. The wide range of lighting sources is essential, illuminating the room and highlighting the vibrant colors and surfaces, making the kitchen truly shine. Florals from Diane James Home make quite a statement on the kitchen island, with the Ocean Beach Wave, San Francisco in a natural frame (currently part of our 30% off sale!) alongside the cabinets.

Relocating the oven and fridge from their original spots necessitated tearing down and rebuilding the wall. This allowed us to incorporate additional storage and a stylish bar. The addition of the bar seamlessly tied our vision together, transforming the kitchen into a space not only for cooking but also for socializing. Now, you can enjoy a drink or two with friends while whipping up a delicious dinner, making the kitchen the heart of the home.

When selecting materials for the bar, we aimed for it to stand out without overshadowing the rest of the kitchen. We chose the same blue for the cupboards and brass hardware to maintain cohesiveness. To give the bar a unique touch, we used a checkered blue backsplash for a bit of texture and wooden shelving was used to continue the incorporation of natural materials. Displayed on the shelves are the images I took while flying over the Tequila Don Julio agave fields in Jalisco, Mexico. The bar is the perfect spot to kick-off cocktail hour and as a special treat, those staying at the house receive a bottle of Tequila Don Julio when they arrive.

I’m so happy to have shared the kitchen with you considering all the hard work that was put into it. Book your stay now at the Getaway House here.

Xx, Gray
