Demo is complete and renovations are underway on the Gray Malin Getaway House! Before we reveal the designs of a few of the rooms I wanted to bring you up to speed on the story and invite you behind the scenes.
My favorite part of a house project is the interior design — I love the creative process and the details of what goes into a home. I also love collaborating with great, trust-worthy designers that know how to pull colors and patterns together.
I’ve been so fortunate to have been connected to Madison of Madison Nicole Design who is local to Santa Barbara and has an amazing aesthetic inspired by the surrounding area. I’d love for you to get to know Madison a little more as she is a key player in the end result of this house!
__GM:__ Tell us a little about yourself?
__MN:__ Hi there! I'm Madison, the founder of Madison Nicole Design, located in Ventura, California. My team and I are so excited to be on board to help bring the Gray Malin Getaway House to life. I started this company about 7 years ago, after receiving my Masters in Interior Architecture degree and gaining experience at a high end architecture + interior design firm in Los Angeles. About a year ago, we opened up our retail shop in Ventura, and it has been so fun to be more connected to the community in this way.
__GM:__ How would you describe your interior design style?
__MN:__ We specialize in creating refined spaces for relaxed living. When people reach out to work with us, they almost always comment on how our portfolio is filled with homes that feel put together but livable, comfortable, and not over the top. We truly try to capture the essence and feeling of California, and translate that across different design styles.
__GM:__ Can you walk us through your design process for the Getaway House?
__MN:__ The Getaway House has specifically been a fun and unique design process, as Gray has a whole portfolio of images that we were able to pull inspiration from to help set the tone and direction of the house as a whole, but also each space individually.
Gray’s “East Coast meets West Coast” style was a large influence for the design in addition to his artwork. Once design concepts are approved by Gray, then we jump into the many details and decisions needed throughout any home remodeling process. Our design studio always focuses on the envelope of the home itself first, making sure that the layout and each room has been intentionally thought out in regards to function before we spend too much time on the aesthetics.
This is not just an interior design job but an entire remodel, so we made sure to wrap up construction drawings and put together the specification book for our contractor. We finalized and ordered all hard materials before diving into the furniture, decor, and window treatments. This allowed demo and construction to begin while we continued working through the remaining selections.
__GM:__ What aspect are you most excited about for the Gray Malin Getaway House?
__MN:__ It has been an absolute joy to work with Gray to infuse the Getaway House with his personal style. He does such whimsical and vibrant shoots, bringing some of his signature colors into the space through different materials and textiles has been such a fabulous approach to design that we have never done before!
## ROOM DESIGNS
__Kitchen + Dining Room__
__GM:__ The kitchen is the heart and soul of a home and we wanted this space to be a showstopper, along with the adjacent dining room. We fully gutted the entire space and in addition to adding a new island, we built out an entire custom bar area so guests can really kick back and enjoy a beverage (or two or three) while staying at the house. For the dining room we redesigned the fireplace with a fabulous tile and a new hearth and mantel to add a cozy feel to the space. We decided to use a classic navy and white umbrellas image of mine that tied perfectly to the dining chairs as well. In the kitchen is Torrey Pines Beach, and in the bar we are hanging the Spritz O'Clock and Bon Voyage images for a pop of jetset cheers for our guests.

__Great Room__
__GM:__ With high ceilings and lots of natural light, I know this was going to be the ultimate before and after! We demoed the fireplace and built out a totally custom new design around my Beach Bronco, Nantucket image above the mantle to center the room. This space is where I picture guests feeling like they are really in a Gray Malin getaway design!

__Primary Bedroom and Bath__
__GM:__ Madison truly took the primary bedroom and bathroom to a new design level! The bedroom has a fabulous vaulted ceiling that she found the perfect grasscloth to wallpaper the walls and ceiling, along with a beautiful lighting fixture and large canopy bed. The bathroom was fully gutted so it could be perfected for a luxury escape within the suite. The standout art piece in the bedroom is Beach Day Pups, San Diego, one of my favorite images. In the bathroom is a quintessential beach photograph that I love — Navy Striped Umbrellas, Miami.

That's it for now! Stay tuned for more on each of the rooms in the house, leading up to the big full reveal this summer. I'm also excited to share the landscape architecture plans for the yard, which is being fully reimagined and redesigned for our guests. In true California getaway fashion, the exterior will be just as fabulous as the interior!
Cheers friends x
