Hi Everyone!
For the past few years, my family and I have been fortunate to spend the holidays on the Big Island in Hawai’i, and it has truly become a magical tradition. From the lush greenery to the serene beaches and the captivating Pacific Ocean teeming with dolphins, sea turtles, and other marine wonders, Hawai‘i feels like a paradise that never ceases to amaze. When you're visiting, be sure to pack light but smart — casual beachwear, sunscreen, and a good hat are essentials for enjoying the island's beauty.
Hawai‘i has held a special place in my heart for as long as I can remember. As a kid, my family spent time on Kaua‘i, and those early trips were where I first fell in love with the island’s natural beauty and vibrant culture. The towering cliffs of the Na Pali Coast and the peaceful, tucked-away beaches left an impression on me that remains to this day. It was during those family trips that I also developed an early appreciation for capturing the beauty around me — a passion that would grow into my career.
Today, our holiday tradition centers around the Four Seasons Hualālai on the Big Island, where we gather each Christmas. This incredible resort has become our home away from home, offering the perfect mix of luxury and the spirit of aloha. Whether it’s Max and Dove racing along the shore, snorkeling to discover vibrant marine life, or simply enjoying the breathtaking sunsets together, every visit creates memories we’ll cherish forever. If you’re planning a visit, book activities like snorkeling excursions in advance to secure your spot during the busy holiday season.
In addition to the Four Seasons, I love staying at the Mauna Kea for Spring Break or in the summer months. They have the most beautiful beach on the entire island, and we’ve made endless memories along the sandy shores—building sandcastles, snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters, and watching unforgettable sunsets.
As a photographer, Hawai‘i continues to inspire me in profound ways. Whether capturing aerial views of the turquoise waters or intimate moments along the coast, each image evokes a sense of wanderlust, nostalgia, and serenity. Exploring beyond the resort, such as taking a helicopter tour to hidden waterfalls or stargazing at Mauna Kea, has provided some of my most memorable shots and experiences.
If you’ve ever considered visiting Hawai‘i, I can only say this: go. Experience its magic for yourself. Whether it’s your first trip or your tenth, there’s always something new to discover and love about these incredible islands. Don’t forget to indulge in local cuisine like poke, malasadas, and shave ice — a visit to a farmers’ market is a must for fresh fruits like papaya and lilikoi.
Xx,
Gray
