Gray's Guide to Capri

Gray's Guide to Capri

Hi Everyone,

My first time visiting the Amalfi Coast I made the mistake of only doing a day trip to Capri. It was so fabulous and although I enjoyed my time, I've made sure to stay there a few days every trip since. The island is filled with so many hidden gems and adventures that it's absolutely worth staying there for a little bit. Capri has been one of my greatest sources for inspiration over the years and I recently released a few new pieces from Italy (Capri included), which you can see here. For a limited time we are offering25% off ALL of my artwork from Italyand a complimentaryNest candlewhen you spend $300 or more, while supplies last. Don't miss out!

_Bottom Line_: During the day Capri is overrun with tourists, but at night when all the tour boats have left, Capri blossoms into one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. After long candle-lit dinners you can stroll the narrow windy streets with a gelato in hand, rubbing shoulders with an elite crowd of visitors from all over the world. The stores stay open very late so you often get your best shopping done then too! It's truly a magical island at night and one of the best experiences people often overlook.

## Where to Eat

Day Time: There are a few amazing spots to spend your days on Capri but my absolute favorite is La Fontelina Restaurant and Beach Club. Walking down an unforgettable windy pathway, you can see the beach club's navy and white umbrellas dotting the rocks below and the famous Il Faraglioni rocks in the distance.

_Bottom Line_: Make a lunch reservation in advance for one of the two daily seatings (12pm and 2pm) and then come early to sunbathe and take a dip in the tidal pool. The people watching is fabulous and if you tip the man who assigns you an umbrella, he'llprobably seat you in a better spot too. I could spend a lifetime laying here - it's one of my happiest places on earth. And don't worry, the food is just as delicious as the view is beautiful.

## Where to Stay

Picking a place to stay on Capri can be tricky but after a lot of research, my favorite spot is Punta Tragara. I first fell in love with this hotel from a Slim Aarons photograph I saw many years ago. Built into the rocks, it is a luxury hotel that feels private and timeless—though you could actually be in a Slim Aarons photograph at any given moment.

Bottom Line: I advise you to splurge on a hotel in Capri. Stay somewhere fabulous with a great view that allows you ability to be close enough to the shopping areas that you can walk around after dinner in the evening. For me, Punta Tragara checks every box on my list.

## What Not to Miss

An absolute Capri must? Renting a boat for a half-day with a private driver. It sounds a little over the top, but it will take your Capri experience to another level.Your driver will take you to swim amongst all of the most beautiful caves and grottos and when you tire of the sight-seeing anchor in the bay for an Aperol Spritz while taking in the gorgeous view.

Spend a day at the most famous locals beach club, Lido del Faro. It's a bit more 'public' than La Fontelina but the experience of being amongst the local crowd will awaken your senses of open your perspective to the island. They have a great private bay for swimming and a fun rock that you can jump from into the sea.

Lunch at the seaside restaurant Il Riccio one day - just spectacular on all accounts.
