A Look Back: My Favorite Collaborations

A Look Back: My Favorite Collaborations

Hi Everyone,

Every great collab starts with a simple “what if.” What if a photograph could live on a shoe, a bottle, swim trunks—or a suitcase? It’s always a privilege to team up with brands I admire and create something new that feels true to both of us and exciting for you!

As I celebrate my 15th anniversary, I can’t help but look back on the collaborations that pushed my work in new directions and brought it to brand-new audiences.

Sperry Top-Sider - 2015

SPERRY X GRAY MALIN

Sperrys became the unofficial uniform for my early aerial shoots. Snapping shots of my sperrys dangling out of a doorless helicopter started to become a ritual, and eventually, a lightbulb went off. What if the beaches I was photographing could live on the shoes I was wearing?

GM-Hero-Heli

Sperry got it right away. We launched our first capsule in 2015 with my imagery printed on classic styles. In 2017 we pared it down to one silhouette—the CVO slip-on—using three beach aerials, plus soft suede details and a leather sole for comfort.

At its core, it was two ocean-loving brands making art you can wear.

Orlebar Brown - 2012

One of my first brand collaborations ever was with Orlebar Brown back in 2012.

Earlier this year, we reunited for a new trio of swim trunks—prints inspired by places I love: The Hamptons, the Côte d’Azur, and Montecito.

We launched the collection at their Montecito Country Mart store with an intimate event, featuring swim cart display so you could see the shorts—and the scenes that inspired them—side by side.Guests took home beautiful flowers, wrapped in the same artwork that appears on the swim trunks.

Orlebar Brown's tailored, resort-ready fit pairs naturally with my imagery, and it's a collaboration I'm still so proud of!

Janie & Jack - 2024

Frame 55

As a dad, this one was extra special! Designing a kids’ capsule with Janie and Jack meant I could make pieces I’d actually see on Dove and Max. We started the first design meeting by asking them what they wanted: “cute and comfy” travel outfits, swimsuits, and tennis sets for lessons. So that’s exactly where we went.

Frame 56-updated

We built the collection to feel like you’re stepping into one of my photographs—coastal, dreamy, fun. Think vintage-tennis polos and shorts, crisp swim looks, cabana stripes, tees with my signature motifs, and a few playful accessories. It launched as a limited Summer 2024 capsule for ages 6 months to 12 years.

Corkcicle - 2022

I’d been carrying Corkcicle for years on shoots, so collaborating with them was really exciting. I love that their bottles are beautifully made and cut down on single-use plastic; even better, every purchase helps fund clean-water projects around the world.

The fun challenge was curating images that would wrap well and still feel like an escape in your hand. We landed on three: The Beach, The Surfers, and The Seaside, translated across canteens, tumblers, stemless cups, and an ice bucket. Seeing those aerials condensed into bold, portable color blocks was a fun way to see my art on the go—on the sidelines of a pickleball game, at a beach picnic, or on a neighborhood walk.

Splendid - 2019

Splendid was one of my first “wearable vacation” experiments—taking my aerial beach photography off the wall and onto clothes you actually live in. We built spring and summer capsules using two favorite images, Pastel Beach Umbrellas (Vertical) and Byron Bay Surfers, then translated those color stories into tees, pullovers, easy dresses, rompers, and even a reversible bikini. Soft, SoCal pieces you could throw on for a coffee run and still feel like you’re one flight away from the beach.

And in true SoCal fashion, Splendid held the launch party at the Santa Monica Pier. They turned the boardwalk into a little “wearable vacation” world with racks of the capsule to try on and snap in. I showed up in the Harbor Chambray Shirt layered with our Bondi Sweater and spent the afternoon chatting, hugging friends, and watching kids run between cotton candy and clothes. Exactly the laid-back, beach-day energy we hoped the collection would carry.

Supergoop! - 2019

Gray Malin Supergoop! Collaboration

I’ve been a Supergoop! person for years—on beaches, boats, rooftops, and plenty of shoots—so getting to collaborate felt like teaming up with a friend I already relied on. We created the Everyday Getaway Kit, wrapping some of their hero SPFs in my East Hampton aerial and tucking everything into a reusable pouch. Simple, practical, and a little bit transporting—exactly how I want sun care to feel.

UNO - 2024

When UNO invited me to create an Artiste Series deck, it felt like the most joyful kind of mash-up—art you can actually shuffle. I’m the first photographer to join the series (following legends like Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat), and that alone made this one a pinch-me moment.

What I love most is how universal it is. My work has lived on walls and coffee tables; now it shows up at game night. Our kids love UNO, so this one quickly became a family favorite at home. It’s a simple, fun way for people of all ages to experience the art together.

Away Luggage - 2017

I’d admired Away since 2016, and when we finally teamed up, we flipped the usual “art on the outside” idea and hid the surprise inside the suitcases. Open the Coral case and you’re greeted by Bondi Beach Close; Ocean reveals Rio Paddle Boarders Vertical; Alpine lines up with Blackcomb Vertical from Whistler. Four sizes (The Carry-On, Bigger Carry-On, Medium, Large), three moods (sand, sea, snow), one little jolt of wanderlust every time you pack.

The collection launched for the holidays and sold out fast, and to this day people still ask about it!

Funboy - 2016

I’ve had a long-running float obsession—you can spot them in my work very often. So when Funboy reached out while I was shooting at The Parker Palm Springs, it clicked instantly: let’s turn an aerial beach photograph into the ultimate summer float.

We spent the next months perfecting a limited-edition patterned swan—hand–silk-screened so the print felt like a tiny floating artwork.

Rihanna on Gray Malin x Funboy Swan

Then came the twist you can’t plan: Rihanna posted herself on our swan in the pool, and the image went everywhere. Pre-orders surged before the official release, and the collab put me in front of new audiences in unexpected places.

Ladurée - 2017

Some collabs feel like a postcard you can eat. Ladurée invited me to wrap their iconic macaron boxes in images from myPoolside series—a tiny summer getaway before you even lift the lid. We kicked things off bi-coastally: first in Los Angeles at Ladurée Beverly Hills, then in New York at their lush SoHo garden. We brought the Mademoiselle Ladurée bicycle for photos, sprinkled in floaties from the shoot, and passed around lifesaver sunnies—very on theme. Friends like Louise Roe, Jacey Duprie, Marianna Hewitt, Dawn McCoy, and Blair Eadie stopped by, which made it feel like a chic little reunion.

I’m so grateful you’ve embraced these collabs and the new ways the work can show up in your life. Keep an eye out—there’s a big one landing next week that I’m beyond thrilled to share!

Xx,

Gray
