The Insider Designer: Hannah Sutter Interiors

Oklahoma City–based designer Hannah Sutter Interiors welcomes us into her colorful, pattern-filled home to share a glimpse into her design world. Known for her traditional-meets-eclectic style and love of layered details, Hannah styled several of her favorite Gray Malin pieces throughout her spaces—showing how art can bring personality and polish to every room. We caught up with Hannah to learn more about her design philosophy, creative process, and where she finds inspiration.

Q: How would you describe your interior design style?

A: I gravitate toward a traditional and eclectic approach that is also highly functional. I love the thrill of an antique find and enjoy layering details like stripes, block prints, and trim-on-trim. But at the end of the day, a home should be lived in—Cheeto fingerprints and all.

Q: Tell us a little about yourself!

A: I’m a born-and-raised Oklahoma gal, married to my better half and raising our four children in the heart of Oklahoma City in a charming historic neighborhood. I started my design firm eight years ago and haven’t looked back. We serve the OKC area as well as clients across the country. When I’m not designing, you’ll likely find me at the park with my kids, tackling our never-ending grocery list, building pillow forts, or squeezing in a girls’ dinner with my best friends.

Q: From color selections to furniture, where do you begin your design process?

A: Wallpaper is often one of my favorite starting points. From there it’s easy to pull paint colors, upholstery fabrics, and trims. Then I begin layering in the jewelry of the room—lighting, hardware, artwork, and accessories—until all the pieces fall into place.

Q: What’s one of the greatest design lessons you’ve learned?

A: Never forget the fifth wall. Ceilings deserve just as much love and detail as the rest of the room, and a thoughtfully designed ceiling can completely transform a space.

Q: Where do you turn for inspiration?

A: Historic homes and buildings are a constant source of inspiration. I love pulling historic details into my projects to elevate a design. Flipping through old coffee table books and studying the work of great designers also sparks ideas.

Q: Is there a Gray Malin photo you’d love to style in one of your projects?

A: I’m a sucker for the puppies! Anything from the Parker Hotel series makes my heart happy.

We hope you enjoyed this Q&A as much as we did! We always love catching up with talented interior designers and seeing how they style their Gray Malin pieces. To see more of Hannah, follow along at @hannah_sutter_interiors on Instagram.
