4 Dog-Friendly Countries to Explore

4 Dog-Friendly Countries to Explore

Hi Everyone!

I recently added a new member to the family — a sweet little pup named Scooby. She's curious, full of energy, and already has me dreaming of all the places I want to take her. Travel is always better when shared, and that now includes a leash in hand!

If you’re like me and want to bring your dog along on your next getaway, here are four countries I’ve loved photographing — and that also happen to be easy, pet-friendly destinations:

Mexico

Colorful, vibrant, and laid-back — many parts of Mexico welcome dogs in outdoor cafés, markets, and even boutique hotels. Whether it’s beachside in Cabo or exploring the streets of San Miguel, it’s a place where Scooby would fit right in.

What You’ll Need:

Valid rabies vaccination certificate (must be over 15 days old)

Health certificate is no longer required for entry as of 2020 (yay!)

Dogs are subject to inspection by SENASICA upon arrival

Spain

From coastal walks to lively plazas, Spain is a great place to explore with your pup. Many restaurants allow dogs on patios, and the energy is always high. Barcelona in particular feels made for wandering — with or without four paws.

What You’ll Need:

ISO-compliant microchip

Rabies vaccination certificate (must be more than 21 days old)

EU pet passport (if you're traveling from the EU) or an EU Health Certificate

France

No surprise here: dogs are practically royalty in France. I’ve seen pups in Parisian bistros, on trains, and even in museums. It’s a great place for long strolls, sidewalk cafés, and the occasional croissant under the table.

What You’ll Need:

Microchip (ISO 11784/11785 compliant)

Up-to-date rabies vaccine (administered at least 21 days before travel)

EU pet passport or non-commercial EU Health Certificate

Italy

Gelato for me, a walk through olive groves for Scooby. Italy has always been one of my favorite places to shoot, and knowing that dogs are welcome in so many public spaces just makes it even better.

What You’ll Need:

Microchip (ISO-compliant)

Rabies vaccine, at least 21 days prior

EU pet passport or valid health certificate

Wherever you’re heading next, bring the leash and a camera. Explore the world with your furry friend!
