Behind the scenes

At the base of the tallest sand dunes in the world sits a thousand-year-old clay pan named ‘Dead Vlei’, or ‘Dead Marsh’. Once fed by a river, the pan gave birth to many camel thorn trees before the dunes shifted a thousand years ago, blocking the river and drying the pan. Gray was incredibly inspired by the skeletons of these 900 year old trees. Scorched by the sun, due to the arid climate, they will seemingly never vanish from the earth. Almost an illusion or mirage, see this wonder of the world in a whimsical new way.
