Out of Office: The 10 Best Beaches for a Labor Day Getaway

Are we the only ones already looking forward to the long weekend? Labor Day is one of our favorite holidays, not only for what is represents, but also for the excuse it gives us to getaway, indulge in some much-needed R&R, and maybe down a few cocktails in the process… (*Ahem* Rhode Island Red, anyone?) But try as we might, sometimes those plans to get away quite literally get away from us as we’re distracted with our day-to-day responsibilities. But no need to fret! Today we’ve rounded up 10 pristine beaches along the coastal U.S. that are perfect for any last minute Labor Day weekend getaway. Whether you live on the West Coast, the East Coast or somewhere in between, we hope one of these beaches is just a few short hours away from you (or less), so you can hop over to the nearest coastline and enjoy a few days on the sand.

Sounds pretty good, right? If you’re wondering where to go for Labor Day weekend but you’re feeling crunched for time, then keep on scrolling for a few Labor Day getaways that won’t disappoint…

1. Palm Beach

Ah, we can’t get enough of the vibrancy of Florida beaches, and Palm Beach is no exception. Gray recently captured brand new beach aerials from the area, and we have to say those smooth sands get us every time.

2. Second Beach, Newport

Let us start by saying, if you haven’t explored Gray’s guide to Rhode Island yet, then please do yourself a favor and add it to your to-do list STAT. If you like living in the lap of luxury and you’re nearest to the East Coast, then this stop is for you.

3. Lighthouse Beach, Edgartown

Any Massachusetts residents out there? If you live anywhere near this destination, then you know the magic that is Martha’s Vineyard. Lighthouse beach in Edgartown is a must-see, and it’s the perfect place to go crabbing, too! Not to mention, there are plenty of charming shops and restaurants in the area, and the town is easily navigated by bike.

4. Crescent Beach, Block Island

Back to Rhode Island we go… What can we say, Block Island is a short ferry ride from the mainland and its beaches are pure bliss.

5. Santa Monica Beach

If you want a high-energy beach on the West Coast, then make sure to stop in the bustling beach town of Santa Monica. This city in our home state of California is surely never boring, and you’ll find plenty of bike and running trails along the sand, as well as more restaurants and well-known shops than you can count.

6. La Jolla Cove

Keeping it West, head South tohang outthe sea lions and other beach lovers down in La Jolla, San Diego. Need more tips, check out Gray's San Diego Travel Guide.

7. Miami Beach

There are few things we love more than Miami’s vibrant beach umbrellas. Just picture yourself here this weekend… Now the only question is, which beach club to choose?

8. Ditch Plains Beach, Montauk

We couldn’t leave our New Yorkers out of the mix! On the very tip of Long Island lies Montauk, and the best part is that it’s only a short distance away from a handful of other amazing destinations like Amagansett and the Hamptons.

9. Cisco Beach, Nantucket

Alright we’ll admit it—there are a lot of great beaches in on Nantucket. But if surfing is your thing, then head to Cisco Beach this weekend. (Don’t worry, if you’re a beginner, there are plenty of surf schools!)

10. Waikiki Beach

Of course, we know Hawaii isn’t technically on the mainland, but if you’re on the West Coast, it’s just a hop, skip and a jump away. While each Hawaiian island is arguably the best one, Oahu has the benefit of both non-outdoorsy activities and pristine beaches for surfing and other water sports.

What are your Labor Day plans? Are you going to visit any of these stateside beaches?

If you don’t have anything on the agenda quite yet, we highly recommend a last minute Labor Day weekend getaway…

But before you do, don’t forget to shop all beach prints in the GM shop!
