It’s official, blue and white is in and we’re not mad about it. For this week’s Start with Art feature, interior designer Audrey Ferdyn is showing us how she created a nautical escape using blue and white details and Gray’s Jonathan Club, Santa Monica print. This room looks so inviting, we wish we just crawl right through the pictures! Keep reading for Audrey’s tips on achieving this look and starting with art!

Hi, I’m Audrey! I am British, I was born in Scotland and came to the states at 2 yrs old. I used to be a Fashion Photographer in LA then fell into design by accident. I feel the two have a lot in common with composition, lighting, and balance. I've been designing for 23 years now.

How would you define your interior design style?

Hampton's, Coastal Modern

Coral Art Pieces | Patterned Pillows | Table Lamp | Rattan Shelf | Fiddle Leaf Fig | White Sofa | Rope Side Table

White Chair | Vase | Coffee Table | Jute Rug

What drew you to Jonathan Club, Santa Monica from Gray's À la Plage series?

Beach life, Seaside Living & the art of Gray Malins photography

What did you pick out as the most important elements of the print to incorporate into the space?

I look at color and texture, but mostly how it makes me or my client feel, it takes you away to a happy place where you dream you are.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone who wants to design a space and start with art?

If you are starting with art then depending on the print, textures, and color, make sure the room brings "it" to life and frames the art in it's own way, Sometimes I feel that the room is literally the frame surrounding the art. It could also be the only colorful piece in the room or vice versa. It's The window on the wall to allow us to view it through the eyes of the artist.
