Design Direction: Start With Art - Adding New England Charm to Your Home With Brooke Anne Interiors

With the launch of Gray’s newest collection from Maine, it seemed only fitting that our Start With Art feature had a New England twist. This week we’re hearing from Massachusetts-based Interior Designer Brooke Kavoogian who’s giving us her tips for adding a dose of New England charm to your interiors.

My name is Brooke Kavoogian, Owner & Lead Designer at Brooke Anne Interiors (BAI), a boutique interior design company based in Hingham, Massachusetts. I graduated from Boston College with an economics major that has proven valuable towards managing BAI design with the highest level of care. In 2018, with my two sons in school full time, I was able to dedicate time to launching Brooke Anne Interiors and pursue my life-long passion for interior design. Creating beautiful spaces for my clients brings me tremendous joy.

How would you define your interior design style?

My signature style for interior design can be described as mixing modern and fresh with inviting and traditional. I focus on creating unique spaces specific to client preferences that are both beautiful and functional. I enjoy timeless and neutral palettes with pops of color, texture and pattern. Navy blue is a staple color you will see in most of my work.

What drew you to Chatham Bars Inn, Cape Cod from Gray's À la Plage series? What did you pick out as the most important elements of the print to incorporate into the space?

Gray Malin's ‘Chatham Bars Inn, Cape Cod’ photo was the perfect piece to use in our Chatham, Massachusetts home, given our families deep affinity for the Cape and our yellow lab named Chatham. Beyond the sentimental value that the “Chatham Bars Inn” print brings to our home, the picture perfectly captures and introduces various shades of aquas and greens to brighten the space. These colors reflect an organic environment that blend together both naturally and beautifully. The Shore Bench by Serena & Lily underneath the photo gives an airy and beachy feel. The flanking pillows are Kravet's Abstract Moment fabric in Peacock and are a perfect compliment to the art above. Gray perfectly captures what it’s like spending summers on the cape and frequenting our “happy place,” which is what is depicted in this picture.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone who wants to design a space and start with art?

Art can be so much more than just a beautiful print! Find a piece you love, that makes you happy and develop the space around it. Whether it's a place you visited, a child's creation, or just a piece that catches your eye, let art take you to another place. Art is personal, should make you feel good, and help you see something different every time you look at it.

Thank you Gray Malin for the opportunity to work with you on this Start With Art collaboration. You are an incredible artist and offer tremendous inspiration and beauty to any space!
