NEUTRALITY

Sometimes the absence of color is as powerful as its presence. If you opt for neutral, double down on the texture for richness. Make sure all your naturals work well together. Pay attention to hue. Decide if you’re a warm white or a cool beige person and stick to it. There’s something about the serenity of a natural palette that calls our name after a busy day at the office. Neutrals also come in the form of finishes and materials too. The custom bell installation we designed for the Kimpton Amara in Sedona plays up brass and wood in similar hues to give you a warm, rich sense in the lobby of this hotel and spa.

PLAYING UP SHAPES

Playing up shapes in any interior can be tricky territory to navigate. We suggest picking your favorite and running with it. We’re currently obsessing over anything rounded. Curved sofas, lounge chairs and statement tables are unique, unexpected and add a lot of personality to any space. Most of us don’t have the opportunity to recreate this beautiful bar at home—but that doesn’t stop us from using all these beautiful curves for inspiration! For big time impact, round out those everyday architectural elements—like these rounded countertops and architectural features pictured above at Fish by Jose Andres—to infuse a softness to the overall design.

ACCESSORY INSPIRATION

Sometimes it’s a little accessory, like a patterned throw pillow, that can drive the design of an entire room. Take our guest room design at the Ramble in the RINO area of Denver as an example. Everyone fell in love with the classic romanticism this floral pattern embodied. So, we decided to pay homage to that little pillow by basing the color palette for the entire room around the colors from the pillow fabric.

ARTWORK & PHOTOGRAPHY

More often than not, the driving force behind all of our interiors is fabulous, show-stopping artwork. It could be passed on from family, found at a flea market, commissioned, bought from Gray’s collection, you get the point! But whatever it is, it should speak to you. Maybe it conjures up memories of somewhere you’ve been—or maybe it highlights someplace you’d like to go! We love the bohemian nature of the collection of photography we curated for the SLS South Beach.

LAY IT DOWN

Speaking of art, oftentimes in our hotel interiors, we turn to custom made rugs and carpets to lay the foundation for the overall design. Case in point, our custom rug collection for the Italian based carpet and rug company, Loloey. We love a good floral here at Avenue, but sometimes a good floral is hard to find! We dreamed up a number of concepts that bring a contemporary edge to the traditional floral motif and we’ve been finding these patterns happy homes in our interiors ever since. That said, when pulling from your rug for inspiration, pay attention to color palette, texture, and motifs to direct the rest of your space. Case in point: this maze print beautifully mimics the angular and cut-out patterns from the rugs above.

WALLPAPER

In the world of interior design, wallpaper is the comeback kid. Wallpapers are back in a big way and we’re all for it in every way. From lovely little lemons, to great big palms, to cute, colorful paisleys, today’s wallpapers are providing an endless source of inspiration. At the REVOLVE suite at the Palms in Las Vegas, we installed the classic banana leaf pattern to evoke a sense of sunny California’s playful, retro vibe. At La Serena Villas in Palms Springs (above) we utilized a Latin inspired paisley for the property’s signature restaurant.
