Tips & Tricks: Gray’s 5 Ways to Make a Home Office Feel Like an Escape

Hi Everyone!

I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s starting to feel a little bit restless about the stay at home orders. Since being at home, I’ve been spending lots of time in my home office and while it’s a beautiful space, I was finding myself feeling uninspired. So, I decided to take some time to change things up and make it feel like a true escape. Today I wanted to share 5 quick and easy changes you can make that will instantly make your office feel like an escape every day.

Inspire Yourself With New Artwork, Coffee Table Books, and Family Photos

I recently put this print from the French Riviera above my computer and it’s made such a huge difference in how I feel while working at my desk. When I look up from my computer and see the photograph it feels like I’m looking through a window to the South of France. One of my favorite prints for a home office is California Girl from my series Gray Malin at The Beverly Hills Hotel. I think the girl on the phone is such a cheeky nod to the work from home lifestyle. And, if you hadn’t heard yet, you can add a new piece of art to your home today and get 20% off including framing on our site with the code HOME20.

I’ve also been keeping my book Escape nearby to flip through whenever I want a little mid-afternoon getaway. Since we can’t see our family and friends right now, I’ve been using our acrylic picture frames to surround myself with photos of my favorite people. Even though it doesn’t compare to giving them a hug, it makes me smile when I look up and see them.

Light a Candle

I love lighting a candle during the day to really set the overall mood and tone for the day. Our beach candle has been my favorite right now and has helped me get excited for the summer days ahead!

Add Faux Florals

If you read this blog post, then you already know I’m obsessed with faux florals these days. Flowers can be so expensive to keep refreshing and typically require a lot of upkeep. Switching to faux florals has not only made my life easier, but it’s made my space feel more fresh and happy. I love the flowers from Diane James Home. They’re such great quality and just overall very classic and beautiful.

Turn on Some Music

I love listening to music during the workday. It helps get me in the zone and keeps me focused throughout the day. I’ve been making an effort to listen to music that’s relaxing and puts me in a good mood. I created a playlist on Spotify for all of you to listen along with me… think easy jazzy tunes with a mix of fun sing-along songs! You can listen here or use the embedded playlist below.

Use pretty notebooks and pens

I’ve been finding myself doing a lot more writing versus typing these days. Whether it’s to jot down my to-do list or grocery list or taking a moment to journal and write down what I’m grateful for, I’ve been reaching for a notebook when I typically would’ve reached for my phone in the past. I’m excited to share that our Gray Malin notebooks and pens, which will be available on graymalin.com later this year are currently available for sale at Paper Source. Every time I use mine I dream of exciting escapes.

I’ll be sharing a short video tour of my home office on my Instagram, which you can check out on my profile at around 11am PST.

Don’t forget to take advantage of 20% off photography including framing on graymalin.com today. So, what have you been doing to make your home feel a little bit more like an escape? I’d love to hear your tips and tricks as well!

Cheers!
