Designing a home office can sometimes be tricky. Of course you want the space to be functional and productive with minimal distractions, but you also want to create a space that is beautiful and inspires you. For this week’s Start with Art feature, designer Kara Vacca is showing up how she styled her client’s home office with MGB Roadster, Mount Pleasant. Keep scrolling to hear from Kara and get all her tips and tricks!

My name is Kara Vacca. For as long as I can remember, I have been interested in design. Color, shape, texture - these basic elements are the foundation of my passion for Architecture and Interior Design. Naturally, I pursued something in the creative field, leading me to found my Interior Design firm, Kara Theresa LLC. Residential Interior Design, aka designing someone's dream home, is something I truly love. Creating a space that is personal & refined to each client makes it impossible to pick a favorite project!

How would you define your interior design style?

My interior design style blends modern and traditional aesthetics through architectural elements and interior finishes to create fresh, inviting and timeless spaces. My clients’ homes have the quintessential balance of style and comfort that are a direct reflection of their personality and lifestyle.

What drew you to MGB Roadster, Mount Pleasant from the Gray Malin in Bermuda series?

This print blends feminine and masculine vibes. Between the pink, elegant architecture and the deep green vintage convertible, this piece of art has gorgeous vibrant colors that are the foundation of this home office.

What did you pick out as the most important elements of the print to incorporate into the space?

No one likes to be stuck inside all day, so I figured why not create a home office that brings the outdoors in; this office is located on my client’s screened in porch. This office design started with this Gray Malin framed print and then the room design grew from there. The vintage convertible, paired with the lush landscape, set the tone for this home office. The hunter green table lamp base and painted floors beautifully tie in the character and charm of this Bermuda scenery.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone who wants to design a space and start with art?

Let the art be the star of the room. These special pieces are meant to be captivating and evoke interest so use it as a starting point; pull out the colors, textures and materials seen in the art and bring them into the design of your space. Notice the subtle details in art and incorporate those finite parts. In this office, we stained the ceilings a dark brown to marry the brown, leather luggage seen in the print.
