If the word “chinoiserie” means nothing to you, then don’t worry—today we’re here to tell you all about this popular décor trend that is taking our homes by storm and how you can incorporate it into your space this summer, too. Chinoiserie is a European design style that imitates traditional Chinese motifs in everything from furniture, to textiles, to ceramics and more, and is most commonly recognized in varying shades of white and blue in Western culture. Ringing any bells yet? You’ve probably seen chinoiserie in the form of vases or large ginger jars, but this trend can be applied to nearly any piece of décor in your home, and even beyond, to things like clothing and artwork.

We’ve been loving accents of chinoiserie as of late, and we thought we’d share the love with you all today with a roundup of some of our favorite pieces. While chinoiserie can be found in a variety of color combinations and styles—and extends well past patterns—our favorite look happens to be the simple white and blue color combo that is most commonly found on ceramics. There’s just something about the simplicity of white and blue, paired with accents like bamboo and rattan that gets to us in the best way. The combination keeps things coastal, while still adding a bit of traditional style to our spaces. Plus, we can’t resist a little chinoiserie placed near a bright and bold beach print for a stunning mix that can’t be missed. Keep in mind, when it comes to decorating with chinoiserie, less is more—so pick up a few accents, disperse them throughout your space, and let the chinoiserie do the talking…
