Happy & Healthy: 5 Ways to Beat the Winter Blues

The merry and bright holidays are behind us, and it’s about that time of year when winter seems to drag on and on. It can be discouraging to be caught up inside for days on end with freezing temps outside, and the monotony can easily lead to a case of the winter blues. Let’s just say, if anyone misses summer, it’s us! But don’t worry, we have a few tricks up our sleeve to beat those winter blues, and we suggest giving them a try.

But we’re not alone in this endeavor… Just yesterday, Gray released a brand new collection of images from Bermuda, and they’re giving us a helping hand in treating those winter blues today. So hop in, because we’re sharing five easy ways to brighten those dark winter days…

1. Add warm-weather artwork to your space.

This one should be easy, considering Gray just added brand new work from sunny Bermuda to his collection of prints. Staying in all winter (especially in snowy climates) often leads to feeling cooped up and stir crazy, but nothing brightens up an indoor space like a brand new fine art print from a tropical location. These new images from Bermuda not only showcase the warm-weather getaway of our dreams, but they are also cast in a warm, summery light that will have you feeling like summer is right around the corner.

2. Start planning a vacation to look forward to.

Dreaming of warmer climates is all well and good, but to really drive the idea home, why not actually plan your next tropical vacay? The simple act of setting plans in motion for a summer getaway can be exactly what the doctor ordered, and can brighten those dark winter days in no time. (Not to mention, your wallet will thank you for getting those travel deals in advance.) So schedule a flight, book your stay, and you’ll have something bright and warm to look forward to once you come out the other side of a long winter.

3. Clear the clutter for a breath of fresh air.

We get it—the idea of tidying up doesn’t necessarily sound “fun” to everyone, but trust us when we say that it is good for the soul! (Especially during the winter, when we spend so much time inside.) Nothing dampens a mood like a messy space, piles of dishes, and furniture covered in a layer of dust. So start your morning off with a list of small, attainable goals, like organizing that one cabinet you’ve been avoiding, sweeping and mopping, or going through your closet and giving away old clothes. Whatever you choose, simply accomplishing small tasks throughout the day will make you feel more fulfilled than watching the day go by. And let’s be honest, it’s always more enjoyable to be surrounded by a clean space when you’re stuck inside for hours on end.

4. Pick up a new hobby.

If you have to be cooped up inside this winter, try making the best of it by discovering a new hobby to keep you busy. It can be something as simple as becoming a master at card games, puzzling, or learning a new craft. You might just be surprised at how capable you are at a new skill, and you’ll feel that much more satisfied when it ends in a beautiful DIY-ed piece. If you don’t consider yourself crafty, then invite friends and family over for a game night (and make sure to pick up a pack of Gray’s playing cards and puzzles for the prettiest play!).

5. Get moving.

This easier said than done if you live in a snowy climate that limits you to the indoors, but there are plenty of ways to get up and move your body without stepping a foot outside. Try an indoor workout with any of Gray’s personal workouts, do some yoga in your living room, or even do some guided stretching with an app. Simply moving your body instead of staying sedentary will get your blood flowing and not only be good for your body, but will be good for your mind too.

How do you get out of your winter funk?

We hope these tips help you beat the winter blues, and if all else fails, it never hurts to get lost in more prints from Gray’s Bermuda series…
